   We can solve this problem with a logical argumentation called 'reductio ad impossibile':
4 portions of string are obtained with 4-1 = 3 cuts; 3 portions of string are obtained with 3-1 = 2 cuts; 2 portions of string are obtained with 2-1 = 1 cut; 1 portion of string is obtained with 1-1 = 0 cut.
Then...
   0 portion of string is obtained with 0-1 = -1 cut. And how can we cut something with ‘-1’ cut? Well, that’s ANOTHER problem!

Per risolvere questo rompicapo, dobbiamo procedere per ‘reductio ad absurdum’ (dimostrazione per assurdo), in effetti:
Si ottengono 4 segmenti di cordicella con 4-1 = 3 tagli; si ottengono 3 segmenti di cordicella con 3-1 = 2 tagli; si ottengono 2 segmenti di cordicella con 2-1 = 1 taglio; si ottiene 1 segmento di cordicella con 1-1 = 0 taglio.
Quindi...
Si ottiene 0 segmenti di cordicella con 0-1 = -1 taglio. Ehi, ma come si fa a tagliare qualcosa con ‘-1’ taglio? Ma questo è già un altro problema...

On résoud ce 'koan' par le raisonnement par l'absurde... En effet, on obtient 4 bouts de cordelette avec 4-1 = 3 coupes; 3 bouts, avec 3-1 = 2 coupes; 2 bouts, avec 3-1 = 2 coupes; 1 bout, avec 1-1 = 0 coupe.
Donc...
On obtient 0 bouts de cordelette avec 0-1 = -1 coupe. Super! Bon, et comment faisons-nous pour découper une cordelette avec ‘-1’ coupe? Ça c'est un autre problème!
