Go-moku, a Japanese boardgame, was introduced in Europe about 1885. This game is known in England as Spoil-Five (the difference is that it's played on squares instead of points). The aim of the game is to align 5 checkers while preventing your opponent player from getting 5 checkers in a line (orthogonally or diagonally)
